Fiss Chart Software Released

I'm happy to announce the first public release of Fiss, a standalone program for creating Fiss configuration charts.

Fiss charts have become the standard way of presenting QCA results. This software makes them easier to create and edit, producing well-formatted, professional-quality charts.

Most users can get started with the built-in GUI wizard, which supports the features needed for standard Fiss charts, including complex and nested headers, long condition and recipe names, and solution and recipe metrics.

For users who want more control, Fiss charts are stored as plain-text configuration files, which can be edited directly in the built-in editor or with an external text editor. This makes it possible to tweak a chart without regenerating it from scratch, work directly from existing templates, and add specialized features such as vertical rules, an expanded set of glyphs, literal text and blank cells. Because the format is plain text, users can also script the creation of charts, which can be useful when comparing multiple sets of solutions.

The software runs on Windows, macOS and Linux/BSD. It is free/open-source software, released under the AGPL-3.0 license.

The software comes with examples and a complete manual, which is also available on the website:
